In The Beginning is a modern, explicit retelling of the Adam and Eve story—reimagined through bold visual symbolism and stylized vector illustration. This project explores temptation, intimacy, consequence, and the fragility of paradise. From character design to environmental storytelling, each scene was carefully constructed to balance allegory and humanity, inviting viewers to reconsider the story they thought they knew. Drawing inspiration from religious iconography, nature, and myth, the illustrations highlight the emotional undercurrents behind this foundational tale—before shame, after choice, and in the moments in between.
CHARACTER DESIGN
Adam and Eve were designed with a focus on strength, vulnerability, and curiosity. Their bodies are idealized but grounded—expressive and full of tension. Eve’s character arcs from wonder to fear to resolve, while Adam’s expressions shift between desire, confusion, and awe. Their skin tones and hair textures reflect a naturalistic palette, while their gestures speak to their psychological states—desire, defiance, longing. Small creatures such as squirrels, birds, and snakes were integrated as narrative foils, reflecting temptation, innocence, or danger as the story unfolds.
The first man. The first to lose everything
Adam
Adam is illustrated as powerful yet emotionally raw. The original man was shaped by creation and undone by consequence.
His design captures a wide emotional range: wonder, joy, shame, grief. Through expressive body language and shifting gazes, Adam becomes more than a symbol — he’s the first to love, the first to fall, and the first to grieve.
She didn't fall-she woke up.
Eve
Eve is rendered with unapologetic presence—her body a vessel of curiosity, rebellion, and raw vulnerability. Each pose captures a moment of transformation: wide-eyed hunger for knowledge, the visceral rush of escape, and the quiet defiance in self-awareness.
Her expressions are layered, not just with guilt or shame, but with clarity—the look of someone who sees through the illusion. She isn’t just the mother of humanity—she’s the catalyst for its awakening.
She was never cast out. She walked away.
Lilith
Lilith is rendered with powerful, sensual curves and an unapologetic presence. Her wild, untamed curls mirror the fire in her defiant gaze—a woman who chose liberation over submission.
Through expressive postures—laughing, guarding, daring—she is portrayed as primal, perceptive, and dangerous in her clarity. Unlike others bound by shame or obedience, Lilith carries the full weight of her autonomy, and wears it like armor. Every pose is a challenge to tradition, each expression a confrontation with a story told wrong for too long.
Born of defiance. Bound to none.
Mazikeen
Mazikeen was born from defiance, molded by the fire of a mother who chose exile over obedience.
She is both wrath and wonder, with eyes that cut and a presence that dares you to flinch. Always watching, always calculating, she’s the calm before a storm—and sometimes the storm itself. There's a softness she hides beneath her snarl, but it’s laced with thorns. Mazikeen is a child of the dark womb, a natural-born survivor who doesn’t need to be saved—she needs space to burn.
First son of the unruled.
Linarian
Linarian is unfiltered wildness, the feral heartbeat of a world before order. He doesn’t walk—he prowls, dances, tumbles through chaos like it’s his mother tongue.
There’s mischief in his bones and madness on the tip of his tongue, but it’s not aimless. He disrupts because it’s how he learns, breaks because it’s how he builds. He is the mirror to all that’s hidden in the dark—innocent, unafraid, and full of terrible power.
Truth slithered in—uninvited, undeniable.
The Serpent
Slick as water and older than Eden, the Serpent is no villain—only the first liberator. It coils where reason falters and desire begins—silken scales, clever claws, and a tongue split not just in form, but in purpose.
The Serpent does not slither to deceive, but to seduce you into clarity. It doesn’t ask—it dares. It dances at the edge of your fear, whispering truths too wild for the garden. It is chaos cloaked in grace, the original agent of awakening. The spark before the fire. The voice that said yes before anyone knew they could say no.
LANDSCAPE/BACKGROUND DESIGN
The Garden is both lush and dreamlike—a paradise teeming with symbolic flora and shadowed spaces. The stylized vector leaves and vines create movement and repetition, guiding the eye across scenes and anchoring emotional beats. The color palette shifts to reflect tone: golden daylight for innocence, shadowy green for seduction, and rich twilight blues for consequence and reflection. Trees function almost as characters themselves—sheltering, dividing, or witnessing the fall. The presence of fruit is central, not just visually, but thematically—bright, symmetrical, and ominously inviting.
TOOLS USED
This project was developed using a hybrid digital workflow that combined intuitive sketching tools with professional design software. Working across platforms allowed me to preserve the organic, hand-drawn atmosphere of the illustration while refining the final composition for clarity, cohesion, and print-ready quality. Each tool supported a different stage of the process—from early ideation to detailed rendering and polished production.
