Bringing up a touchy subject for nowadays. 90% of Down syndrome prenatal diagnosis are aborted just because the expecting parents don't want their child to be "different." When my mom gave birth to my sister, we had family who told her that she should've had an abortion. If my mom had gotten an abortion, I would not have the most important person in my life.

People often put limitations on those with Down syndrome. They define them as incapable or having limited abilities which often confines them and diminishes their opportunities. When looking at science it makes sense, but looking at what lies in their heart, they overcome more obstacles than you and I could ever imagine.

This idea sparked when people kept asking if my sister needed help or was limited. I'd tell them she's more capable than they think. She's on the honor roll, has tons of friends and even made the school basketball team and cheer squad. The only thing that sets her apart from "normal" people is her extra 21st Chromosome.

Talking around those with Down syndrome and making them a third party of a conversation directly regarding them is something the majority of us tend to do without even thinking. This video illustrates the amount of effort and stages it takes for someone with Down syndrome to make their own voice heard.
